A graduate of the University of Chicago, Isabel Fargo Cole has lived in Berlin since the mid-1990s. She is a novelist
and the translator of such authors as Klaus Hoffer, Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Franz Fühmann, Adalbert Stifter, and
Wolfgang Hilbig, for whose novel Old Rendering Plant her translation received the 2018 Helen and Kurt Wolff Translator's Prize.
